A Little of This, A little Bit of That

What is Gumbo exactly? They say in Louisiana, “it is a little bit of this and a little bit of that.” Gumbo is a dish that is much like its heritage- a mix of French, German, Italian and African cooking traditions.

You begin with a dark roux that is used as a base for the stew. To that okra and filé powder are added to continue the thickening. Now it gets interesting and is up to creativity of the chef. Meats, shellfish and vegetables are added to create a masterpiece. It is delicious and you will be hooked at first bite!

The 29th Annual Sandestin Gumbo Festival is just around the corner and this is one event on the Gulf Coast that you do not want to miss.  This popular festival is one of the largest winter food events in our area.
