New Family-Friendly Park in Destin
Captain Leonard Destin Park
There is a new family-friendly park in Destin! Located off of Calhoun Street and right on the Choctawhatchee Bay, the Captain Leonard Destin Park is a beautiful spot for visitors of all ages to relax and play. The park just opened a few days ago, and the weather has been perfect the last couple of days for guests to enjoy!
One neat component of the park is that it was built on the same plot as land as Captain Leonard’s original homestead. The site holds over 150 years of memories, including boat building and fishing. The park’s emphasis is centered around the importance of the water to the City of Destin; what was once a small fishing village is now a widely popular destination for those looking to experience white sand and emerald green water. As the City of Destin’s official website states, “The park transports a historic site to a place of gathering that celebrates the spirit of Destin, with the water at its core.”
Captain Leonard Destin Park is 3.42 acres and has a number of activities for its visitors. Park-goers will enjoy an expanded deck, beach area, boardwalk in addition to a large picnic pavillion and kayak launch. There is also a great raised wooden deck with a platform and plenty of handicap beach access as well. Kids will enjoy the playground, splash pad, and public art displays.
If you are staying at the Cottages by the Bay in Destin, visiting the Captain Leonard Destin Park is a must! You can actually walk to and from the park if you are staying here, since the Cottages are just across the street from the park. This is a great place to stay in Destin since you are within walking distance of so many great attractions and restaurants.
