Casual Dining in Destin

The competition is fierce for our favorite place for casual (still wearing your beach flip flops) dining in Destin, Florida. A recent visit to Brotula’s Seafood House & Steamer moved this harbor side restaurant among the front runners. We loved sitting out on the back deck, overlooking the busy harbor and docked boats.seafood restaurants in Destin FL

Starting with cocktails, Brotula’s is serving up some of the best hand-crafted cocktails along the Emerald Coast. One cocktail called “Wild Weekend” (New Amsterdam vodka, elderflower liqueur, mint simple syrup, fresh grapefuit juice, fresh lime, and prosecco topper) was a perfect combination for a summer beverage. There’s also a specialty cocktail of the day which allows the bartender extra creativity.

For our meal, the menu is diverse, so there’s something for everyone. We can highly recommend the “build your own boil.” Our one-pound of royal red shrimp (head-on) boiled Cajun-style was perfectly seasoned and oh-so-tasty. Don’t worry about the mess – the shrimp were easy to eat and worth the small effort to peel and enjoy. Ask for a little extra horseradish to kick up the homemade cocktail sauce. ¬†The sky’s the limit on what you can add to your seafood combination. Brotula’s also offers oysters, mussels, crab, and lobster tail either steamed, Cajun boiled, or the deep-south boiled w/ beer.where to eat in Destin FL

Since we are in the busy summer months, it’s best to visit the harbor restaurants at off-peak times, if possible. We had a late breakfast so opted for a late lunch/early dinner, arriving at 4:30 with no line or waiting. All the restaurants also feature delicious lunch specials so mid-day is also a great option.
