61st Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival
The Billy Bowlegs FestivalĀ is definitely one of our favorite events in Destin. The event starts on June 3, 2016 and ends June 6, 2016, and is two days full of family fun!
The festival features kids activities, live music, and other pirate themed attractions. The waterfront Landing Park in Fort Walton Beach is hosting the event, andĀ admission is free and open to the public. There will be a spectacular firework show on Friday and a Torchlight Parade on Monday. Friday and Saturday feature live music provided by Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers. You are also encouraged to show your pirate side and dress up in your best pirate costume!
The Billy Bowlegs Festival came about when a group of businessmen attended a Labor Day ski show in 1953, and they were inspired to start their own project. They soon came up with the idea to make it pirate themed. Their patron pirate was the legendary William Augustus Bowles who was famous around the Gulf Coast area. Billy Bowlegs himself will make an appearance and take over the city during the festival!
The Billy Bowlegs Festival is an annual event that our locals love! There is no other festival like it in this area. Destin looks forward to it every year, and we want to share it with you!
