Gumbo Time Along Gulf Coast

Destin Museum Gumbo Contest

We love community museums and are especially proud of the happenings at the Destin History and Fishing Museum.  One of our favorite fundraisers for the museum is the annual gumbo contest, slated for Saturday, January 31.  Area restaurants and individuals will compete for the coveted title of best gumbo.  You are invited to sample the gumbo and select a winner for the People’s Choice Award.  Tickets are available in advance for $10 at the museum or $12 at the door. The event will also feature a silent auction.  All the food and fun will be held from 11-2 at the Destin Community Center.

Sandestin Gumbo Festival

This winter festival favorite is back – it’s the 26th year for the Sandestin Gumbo Festival.  You will get the chance to sample a variety of gumbo and vote your favorite as the “People’s Choice” winner. Dark or light roux? Chicken, sausage or seafood? Celebrity judges will name the “Area’s Best,” and award the most creative set-up as “Best Display.” Gulf Coasts restaurants will be featured along with live music and children’s activities. Tickets to Saturday’s main event are available now for $20/$30 the day of the event.  The gumbo cook-off will take place Saturday, February 14, from noon until 4 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit Sandestin Foundation for Kids, an organization that assists children in need in our community.

If you plan to visit either event as part of a special trip to the Destin, FL area, some of our lodging partners are offering special Mardi Gras discounts, some up to 25% off your stay.
