Hurricane Michael Update

Hurricane Michael Update

Hurricane Michael made landfall on Wednesday as a Category 4 hurricane. With the exception of some strong wind and rain, our beautiful beach community here and on Okaloosa Island remained resilient against the storm. We are so blessed to have had minimal damage here in Destin. In the wake of the storm, it now finally feels like fall outside, with temperatures in the low 70s and high 60s over the next coming weeks. We couldn’t have asked for better conditions after a storm: the blue sky is as bright as ever, the sun is shining, and Destin residents are out and about.

However, our neighbors to the east in Panama City, Mexico Beach,¬†Port St. Joe, and Apalachicola have not had the same luck. We ask that you keep the area’s residents in your thoughts and prayers during what is sure to be a long and arduous process.

We know many of you would like to help support the victims of Hurricane Michael. Volunteer Florida is asking for donations or volunteer effort, whichever you are able to give. Donations will go to the Florida Disaster Fund, where proceeds are specifically allocated to assist communities as they recover from disasters. Or, sign up to volunteer and help restore our beautiful beach towns.
