Local Residents Recommend Their Favorite “Mom & Pop” Places to Eat in Destin
Two Destin restaurants received the most recommendations in a poll which asked “Best local mom-and-pop food place to take a family?”
In the informal poll on the Destin Log’s Facebook page, the two favorite locally-owned restaurants enjoyed the most are Dewey Destin’s and Callahan’s.  A third restaurant that locals love is Nick’s Seafood located on Choctawhatcee Bay in Freeport, a short drive from Destin.  You can’t go wrong with any of these choices if you are searching for restaurants in Destin, FL.
The number one choice, Dewey Destin’s, has two locations to serve seafood lovers.  In the poll, fans of Dewey’s were split between the restaurant’s harborside location on the Destin harbor and it’s Crab Island location. Dewey fans will also be happy to hear that work is underway on a Dewey’s food truck which will carry the name “Dewey On the Go.” The food truck is expected to be up and running next month.  In addition, those traveling to Auburn football games this fall will be able to enjoy some Dewey’s seafood at Auburn home games.  The food truck will be serving Dewey favorites including the restaurant’s famous hush puppies.
So which do you pick?  Dewey’s harbor side or Dewey’s Crab Island?  It doesn’t matter to me as long as one of those amazing sunsets featured here comes along at the same time as my shrimp basket!  The harbor location is open everyday until 10 p.m. while the Crab Island location closes at 9 p.m. each evening.
