Smoke on the Coast is Back!

Get Fired Up for the 8th Annual Smoke on the Coast

Smoke on the Coast

Do you love barbecue? How about fireworks? Do you love eating barbecue while watching fireworks? When it comes to celebrating Independence Day, there’s truly nothing better than some good ol’ fall-off-the-bone barbecue. If you’re spending the 4th of July in Destin this year, head over to Destin Commons on Tuesday, July 3rd for the 8th Annual Smoke on the Coast. This popular event is anticipating to pull in over 12,000 people!

Smoke on the Coast kicks off at 5 PM with entertainment and live music from local bands including I’Magene and The Wide Open. With festive street performers and activities for children, the event is fun for the whole family!

The barbecue competition lasts from 5:30 – 8 PM. The cost is only $1 per sample, with 18 various restaurants and barbecue pros competing for the gold! The “gold” is the coveted People’s Choice title, and celebrity judges will choose the Judge’s Pick winners. Other awards include cash donations and trophies. Each vendor is partnered with a local charity, with the proceeds from the event directly benefiting those charities. Last year, Smoke on the Coast raised over $83,000! That’s a LOT of barbecue!

After the barbecue competition, hang around for what is known as the first (and best!) Independence Day firework extravaganza on the Gulf Coast. The show begins at 9:30 and lasts until 10 PM. Trust us, you don’t want to miss this!

The following barbecue teams – consisting of non-profits and their aficionados – will compete tomorrow:
