Spring Break Survival
With most rental companies doing Saturday-to-Saturday rentals, this means an enormous amount of vehicles on the highways leading into the Florida panhandle. One friend said it took seven hours to make a four hour drive on Saturday last summer. With most check-in times at 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., this also leads to be busy local roads.
If you can find a Sunday-to-Sunday rental, jump on it. Another suggestion, make Friday a main travel day and stay in an inexpensive hotel on Friday night about one hour from your destination. Get up Saturday morning, put on your swimsuits, then spend your day on the beach until you can check into your vacation condo in Destin, Fl.
First Day Groceries
The grocery stores here are packed every weekend of spring break. Do you really want to spend the first hours of your vacation standing in line? We can recommend shopper companies to make that task easier. Two local companies, Be My Shopper and Beach Butlers, will do all the work for you. If you are staying in a Southern Vacation Rental, use the Southern Perks program to receive $5 off from both companies. In addition, Be My Shopper will work with your vacation rental company to have the groceries delivered and PUT AWAY in the fridge and kitchen cupboards, before you arrive! That sounds like a terrific way to start a vacation! (Harper, the little helper for Be My Shopper, is just the cutest!)
In addition, if you live in a city served by Shipt, the grocery delivery service, you are in luck. Shipt covers a wide area of the Gulf Coast, from Fort Walton Beach to Panama City. If you are already a member, just change your location on the Shipt app. If you are not a member, now is the time to take advantage of a special that gives you the first two weeks free, plus $15 off your first grocery order. Bonus for beach goers – Florida is one of the states where Shipt shoppers can deliver alcohol from Publix and ABC stores.
