Students using their talents to raise money for global missions

Destin, Florida¬†is the home of¬†“Music for Missions”

Friday night, local musicians came together at Destiny Worship Center for MUSIC FOR MISSIONS. Student and adult musicians entertained the attendees with 2 hours of musical performances ranging from classical piano pieces to contemporary guitar and vocal pieces. Some pieces were originals written by the musicians.

The student musicians represented talented musicians from various high schools in the area and the adult musicians are professionals in their field, all who volunteered their time and talents to raise funds to be sent to missions organizations across the globe. DWC currently donates to six international missions organizations around the world including its very own DWC Kenya.

MUSIC FOR MISSIONS¬†started with a 16 year old’s vision to host a concert to raise money for a children’s home in Guatemala and has grown to raise funds for six missions beneficiaries. The evening kicked off with a narrative piece and moved into classical pieces on the clarinet and piano. The first half of the show also included an amazing vocal and acoustic guitar piece written by one of the singers and then closed with an original piece by Fleetwood Covington III, a local pianist and film composer who was also the production director of the evening’s show.¬†

Intermission included a wonderful silent auction with items donated by local businesses and attendees enjoyed desserts from Karaboo Bakery and Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa.

The second half included fabulous pieces which consisted of classical piano, amazing vocalists, a Euphonium player and  the night ended with the finale which amazed all who were in attendance. Covington composed a piece specific for this evening and had eight student drummers as well as other musicians play live to the piece he wrote. The piece was intense and along with the lighting that was staged to the music, it was something you would see on a Broadway stage or a piece from a movie.

All of the musicians donated their time and talents to raise funds for global missions which include ministries in Kenya, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Nepal, Dominican Republic and Brazil. The funds raised came from ticket sales, the silent auction and sponsors. Local business sponsors included: Destiny Worship Center, 1st Globe Stone, Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa, Beach Properties of Florida, Karaboo Bakery, Kelly Marquez Photography, Seashell Wedding Company, Jenkins Engineering Incorporated, Laughlin Medical Clinic, Aegean Restaurant, Dogwood Services, Brown Family DCH, Emerald Dunes Real Estate, Bryan House, Key Lime Construction, Mary Kay, TempaCure, and Romair.
