Things to Do for Memorial Day Weekend in Destin

Things to do in Destin for Memorial Day

If you’re still searching for a place to stay in Destin for Memorial Day weekend, check out Breakers East. These two bedroom, two bathroom condos are close to everything. They’re minutes from Silver Sands, Destin Commons, and Grand Boulevard, plus they’re right on the water.  Hurry though; most Destin vacation rentals are already taken!

Once you’re here, and for all our locals, start your weekend at HarborWalk Village.

From 4-6 p.m., enjoy half-priced drinks at Grande Vista Bar & Grill. Located in the Emerald Grande, Grande Vista offers poolside dining with sweeping views of the Destin Pass. Friday’s drink special is the Bahama Mama, and you can also order half priced beer, wine, and well drinks. Take advantage of big savings on small plates during happy hour. Within the $5-$10 range are hummus and pita chips, flash fried calamari, boneless wings, grouper tacos, smoked fish dip, sliders, and a fruit and cheese plate.

At 7 p.m., catch local band The Good Lookings performing live at the amphitheater. A three-piece rock band, Myke, Jarrod, and Zack are Destin natives with a flair for acoustic rock. They perform covers as well as original songs, and are sure to rock the harbor.

Saturday, hit the white sand of the Emerald Coast early to stake your spot in the sand. For pick-up games of volleyball, head to the shores behind Whale’s Tail on Scenic Highway 98. This is a great location because you can run right up to the beachside bar and grill for food and drink. Whale’s Tail serves breakfast until 10:30 a.m., including their famous Bloody Mary, and finishes off the day with everything from fresh seafood to salads to burgers.

If you want a quieter location, head to Henderson Beach State Park. It’s $6 per vehicle and well worth it for the smaller crowds.

Saturday evening at 4:30, return to HarborWalk Village for a free concert by Flash Flood. Cap the evening off with fireworks over the harbor at 9 p.m., followed by fire spinning from Just Add Fire.

Sunday fun-day, of course, is all about brunch. And when you think brunch, you think Harbor Docks’ Bloody Mary Bar. Build your own concoction and get your comfort food on with the fisherman’s special or biscuits and gravy.  Dine on the open-air balcony overlooking the harbor—perfect, rain or shine.

Three days of Destin fun are the only way to kick-off summer this Memorial Day! For even more news about what’s going on, check our Destin Events calendar.
