Little Known Foodie Secrets in Destin

Lunch Crepe at O Crepe du Soleil.

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of phenomenal places to eat in Destin. All along the coast are seafood restaurants, steak houses, and cafes.

Sometimes, you think you know them all; especially the “can’t miss” spots. But even on Destin’s main thoroughfare, U.S. Highway 98, there are great eateries you can easily overlook. Take O Crepe Du Soleil, for example.

Located between Tropical Smoothie and our favorite lodging partner, Southern Rentals & Real Estate, on Highway 98, O Crepe du Soleil  is tucked away in a strip mall just East of Destin Commons. The main sign just reads “Crepes” and if you’re not careful, you’ll miss it altogether.

Once inside, it’s a surprisingly intimate atmosphere bursting with Parisian flare. Dim lighting, large French murals, and a dessert counter of eclairs and macaroons set the tone. The menu features breakfast, lunch, and dinner crepes.

For breakfast, you can’t really go wrong with a fruit-filled crepe, topped with fresh berries. Or, if you’re ready to fuel up with protein, try the veggie crepe with added salmon.

Another Destin hot-spot presents itself as a simple wine store. Wine World on Commons Drive also rests in a strip mall. From the exterior, you wouldn’t know Wine World, locally referred to as Chan’s or The Wine Bar,  has one of the best menus in Destin. Serving lunch and dinner, Chan’s offers gourmet meats, cheeses, breads and more. Try the Grand Cru board—charcuterie and accoutrements of smoked and cured meats, fruits, olives, and five gourmet cheeses.

Or indulge in the smoked salmon deviled eggs, topped with lemon, capers, dill and tomato bacon marmalade. And if you love cheese, try the ultimate grilled cheese, made with triple cream brie, raclette, gouda, with tomato bacon marmalade and parmesan butter on sourdough.

Dinner entrees include hand cut tenderloins, rack of lamb, and the Gulf fresh catch of the day, all paired with a wine from one of Destin’s premier wine list. (We recommend the Miraval Rose).
